Since 1995, the U.S. and Europe ( in Russia since 1999 ) have carried out research on stem cell transplantation for patients with multiple sclerosis.

This method is great hopes . The essence of the method to eliminate the underlying cause of the disease, namely to eliminate autoimmune T cells, damaging brain tissue and spinal cord.

Practice has shown that transplantation in the early stages of the disease can stop its progression for several years and prevent disability of the patient.

In 2009 the world was held for more than seven hundred transplants of stem cells. One of the leading countries implementing this method, treatment of multiple sclerosis, is Germany.

Unfortunately, in the later stages of the disease , this operation is not carried out, as some motor functions of the body permanently lost . Therefore the question of transplantation decided individually after careful and detailed examination of the patient .

European register data indicate that the efficiency of this operation for multiple sclerosis disease varies from 59 % to 90 % (in the case of relapsing-remitting form of multiple sclerosis ).

Treatment is carried out in three stages : the collection of stem cells , the elimination of " patients ' immune cells throughout the body , the introduction of stem cells into the patient.

Multiple sclerosis treatment with stem cells leads to a rapid improvement of psycho-emotional state of the patient and reduce the symptoms.

The majority of multiple sclerosis patients during the first year after surgery, restored vision, increased mental capacity , emotional background comes back to normal, decreases depression . With lower speed recovered motor function, a voice of the gastrointestinal tract, reduced pelvic disorders. The operation itself stem cell transplant performed in German hospitals for two days.
